So far in 6th grade I have learned alot. In Social Studies I have learned about Mesopotamia and what all the little facts are and what we already know. About Mesopotamia we have learned that its nickname is the "Fertile Crescent" and that the people their are very into farming. Also the soil there is very rich because their are two rivers bordering Mesopotamia and so it floods into the farming area. We have done alot of fun activities and one of them are writing an essay and it is very fun.
In math we have been learning about decimals but this week will be our first lesson with the decimals. Last unit we have done geometry witch is my favorite thing do in math. last week we had done our test. It was kinda hard for me but also kinda easy. I am very confident that I have done very well on the test. I wouldn't be able do it without Mrs. O'Hern she is a very nice teacher and has helped me with alot of things. I really like math.
In Science we have done a project on your favorite biome. I have done mine on a grassland and it has been very fun doing the project. I have learned that there is various animals such as lions, tigers, buffalo, bison and zebras. The varios plants I have learned in the grassland is the that there is the short grass, tall grass, and the perple coneflower. So far Science has been very fun and the learning has helped me alot.
In language Arts we have been doing WKCE practice tests. To me so far they are very challenging but I have been able to do them. We have done two Math, one reading with two stories and multiple choice questions. Also after we finish we read for about 20 minutes and then we go over the answers.
Therefore school has gone very well for me and it is starting to be kinda fun.

Math- This month in math we learned or reviewed on how to find area and perimeter of many different individual shapes. We also had a test about halfway through the quarter. When we were done we went over it and got to correct our tests.
Language Arts- this year in language arts we started our reading response logs. Those are for when we’re done reading our book for the day we right something that connects with your book with what you learned in class. We also learned about many ways to improve your writing and to keep a reader reading and not get bored with it, like starting with something startling or to start your passage with a question.
Science- We has finished up our biome projects. A biome is land that sets it apart from other areas. Examples are rainforest and desert. Now we are presenting our presentations to the class and learning about other biomes besides the one we did extensive research on. We’ve also been taught about biotic and abiotic factors of an ecosystem. Abiotic factors are non-living things in the ecosystem such as soil, water, light, and temperature. Biotic factors are living parts of an ecosystem like animals, trees, and plants.
Social Studies- In social studies we are continuing on the ancient civilization unit. Our civilization this month was ancient Mesopotamia. This is a civilization that is very much like our ancient Egypt unit. We are also using this unit to take a chance to compare the two civilizations and discover the differences and similarities.

October was quite a different month from September in my opinion. Everybody is pretty close to being settled if not already settled in the flow of school. All the subjects are starting to pick up pace, which I like, because I like to work through things fast. I hope the year keeps getting better still as the year goes on.
In math I finished Pre-Algebra at the beginning of the month and I am very close to being done with Algebra. Math is really hard now as I start getting farther and farther. It is really fun now because I really have to work to get stuff done. My goal is to finish Algebra by the end of next week. I hope math keeps going the way it’s going because it’s really fun right now.
Spelling has certainly become more fun this month. We now have enrichment packets, which are more challenging and allow us to work at our own pace. This is really an improvement from what I thought of spelling last month. I thought spelling was going to be really slow pace but as the year goes on it gets harder and harder.
In social studies we finished up our Egypt Chapter, and took our final test. We have now started working on Mesopotamia, which I have never learned about, so it’s something new. We are writing compare and contrast stories of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and the Nile. So far, Social Studies has not disappointed.
Language Arts has been surprisingly fun this year compared to others. This year we get to read our own books, which was really a problem for me in the past, reading books I didn’t like. We also have started responding in our reading logs about things like our character’s flaw or the antagonist in our book. This is one of the only years I have really liked language arts
In Science we have been working and starting presenting our Best Biome project. We are pretty much trying to get Mrs. Fulfer to move to a different area in the world. This was really fun because we not only got to learn information about a certain biome but we got to use our imaginations to persuade Mrs. Fulfer to move. All in all, October has been really fun in all aspects of our school.

In Math, we are doing ALEKS. We get to do a bunch of different topics whenever we want. It’s a lot of fun because you can work at your own pace and we are mastering a bunch of different things. We are all at our own level, so then no one is slacking or skipping ahead. Also, we are getting a lot of work time instead of trying to check homework the whole time.
In social studies, we are learning about the geography of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is an area of land where present day Iraq and Israel are. Mesopotamia has very fertile land and is located right off the coast of Africa, right by Egypt.
In FCE, we are just finishing up, and then we move on to Tech Ed. But we are almost done with our babysitting unit. On Wednesday, we are going to use computerized babies, and watch them like they are real infants. Earlier in FCE, we were doing our pillows. We learned 3 different kinds of stitches and we got to make our pillows however we wanted. But then we went on to babysitting because we finished.
Science- Recently in science, we have made a presentation on a chosen biome. We could choose tropical rainforest, desert, temperate forest, tundra and the taiga. Right now we are learning more and more about each biome, because everyone is presenting their masterpiece.
L.A. - In Language Arts we have been working on many things to improve our writing and reading strategies. We have wrote our Personal Narratives pieces and are adding details or taking away unwanted sentences to make them better. During Reader’s Workshop we have been using topics/ strategies to analyze our books and characters.
Band- Even though it is only the very end of October, we have already started rehearsing our holiday music. Our song selection is Auld Tannenbaum, Tango Bells, Simple Gifts of Christmas, Hanukkah Celebration and Countdown to Christmas.

In math, we now have a break time, usually 10 minutes, where we play a quick math game or have a Math Chat where we partner up and discuss math topics. And we recently did a project: designing a flower bed, building an aquarium, or making the school lunch program. I chose to design a flower bed and our group won for the best flower bed design. It was really fun to make and figure out what to buy with a budget of $500.
In science we had to make a presentation about a biome, which is an area of land that have certain plants, animals, temperatures, amount of light, soil, and water. My biome was a taiga, which is the biome that Alaska is. The most fun part was adding animations and pictures to the Power Point. = )
In language arts we learned things like using context clues to figure out what a word means and a character’s flaw. We usually read 10-20 minutes during this time. Now we don’t really have language arts because we practice for WKCE testing during that time.

Math: In math Carlos is learning about place values and decimals. We learn how to estimate the place values. Jack does Aleks math program. Jack learns algebra.
Language Arts: In language we are learning about character flaws. Character flaws are weaknesses of the character. The antagonist then exposes the flaws to try to beat the protagonist.
Science: In science we learned about biomes and we made a project to persuade Mrs. Fulfer in living in a certain biome. A biome is a land that has its own features and makes it unique.
Social Studies: In social studies we have been learning about Mesopotamia. It was a great civilization now known as the Middle East.
Extra Circular: Jack and I are on the basketball team and both of us have fun. Last year we placed 6th in state last year.

In math we are now working on dividing fractions and multiplying them also and subtracting for things like fractions. We are mostly dividing things. I just got finished with area and perimeter for triangles and trapezoids and also squares ect.
In science we just finished a project about biomes. Biomes are special lands you could say. As an example tropical forests and the deserts. We had to do a slide for the biome we have picked. I picked the tropical forest you have to list different animals, plants, temperatures, water, and ect.
Now social studies, we just got done with learning about Egypt. In the Egypt subject we learned about their beliefs and gods also about the Nile river and how farmers in Egypt get life off of that river as in flooding season the Nile floods and it waters all of the farmers crops. Now in social studies we are learning about the Mesopotamia.
Lastly language arts. We learned about realistic vs. unrealistic. Which is if the character in your book in your book sounds real or not real. Also we learned about the antagonist in our books. Like who is the bad guy. Lastly we learned about my characters flaw. As in my characters fears. And what my characters afraid of.
