November By: Emma

This month was fun we did a lot of projects and other fun stuff.
Math I learned how to multiply and divide fractions. Another thing I learned how to do was to multiply and divided decimals.
Social studies what I learned was the daily life in Mesopotamian and what they did for work and the life of kids and at the end we did one skit about what we learned about.
In tec. Ed Mr. m is teaching us how to do Tch. Drawing the last thing I remember is we made a giant one inch to help us to read a ruler
Science we are learning about ecology which is all of the different biomes and all of their abiotic and biotic factors.
Language arts we are learning what we did is book logs and we learned about figurative language also we are working on a project called my book you get to make your own book and that is what I did in November

November By: Celina

Language Arts- I’m learning a lot at spelling, reader’s workshop, and writer’s workshop. Right now in writers we are making a book. In spelling one of the only things that are fun is the bunny. We make a bunny and it’s just like hand man.
Science- I love science. The funniest thing we did was the skits. My group did Competition. It was so much fun! Our examples were bees and whales. What I would like to do more is making skits and doing a lot of games to teach us about the subject we are learning!
Social Studies- My favorite subject (besides gym) is S.S. It’s so much fun! We were learning about Mesopotamia and for that my group did a game show. Now where doing Buddhism for ancient India. I hope we do something fun for this unit!
Math- I don’t really like math. I need to work hard in math. Right now I’m not getting the best grades but I know I can improve them. One of the reasons I might be failing is because I don’t come in and ask for help on my homework.

November By: Joey

In math we are learning about adding, multiplying, dividing and subtracting fractions. In the beginning of math we always get math boards and then we usually correct our homework then turn in our homework.

In writers workshop we are making a book based on questions like if you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? And others.

In tech Ed. We are learning how to draw. I personally do not like it.

In science we are starting a new unit about energy and we just finished unit on biomes

In social studies we are currently working on a map of mohenjo daro in ancient India we jus finished a unit on ancient Egypt

In readers workshop we were just finishing up our reading log and starting on a reputation packet with 4 pages.

November By: Kathryn

Language Arts- We’re working on entries for our book that we are in the process of writing. Each page is based off a different prompt. So far these are the prompts we’ve gotten to:
1. If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go…..
2. If I could meet anyone, (dead or alive) I would meet…..
3. My favorite school memory is….
I really like the approach we are taking on this writing piece. The actual name of the piece is “My Book.” Other than writing our books, we are still learning more about reading strategies, then using them as we read independently. After we get time to read our choice of book, we get to write in our reading response journals. In the response journals, each page is a different “topic” that kind of goes with the reading strategy we learned that day.

Science- Yesterday we stated a new unit. We just finished up our ecology unit. I got a 97% on the test! :) Our new unit is about matter and energy. We brainstormed ideas of things we would like to do in this new unit. We also took notes on mass, weight and volume.

Math- Things are going really well in math class with Mrs. O’Hern. Right now we are focusing on multiplying, adding, subtracting and dividing fractions. I’m really proud of myself. I have been working hard and it’s really paying off. Soon we’ll take our test, I hope I’ll do good! :)

S.S- We just finished up learning about Mesopotamia and have moved onto Ancient Egypt. We just finished making maps of a city in ancient India, Mohenjo- Daro. Making the maps really helped us learn what and where things were in Mohenjo- Daro. And they were pretty fun to create. :) We also finished our unit on Mesopotamia. We wrote essays about the similarities and differences of the Indus, Tigris, and Nile rivers.

In math I am learning about dividing fractions it is actually really easy, once you get it. I am also learning how to multiply fractions it is almost like dividing them. All you do different is you make the 2nd fraction a reciprocal then you multiply, then make it a mixed number. I also learned about that you can cross fractions so you don’t need to simplify latter in the problem.
I am in the aleks program I am over 60% done with aleks. It is super fun. Every other week I am on a roll and the other week I get stuck on easy topics like crazy, but I like it. I just have to work harder
I am making social project. I am making a map on Mohenjo-Daro. It is kind of hard first I have to make a rough draft then I am working on the real one. I am almost finished with it. I just need to color in a few things like the houses and the grain.
In language arts we are writing our own books with 8 pages. Each page has a different prompt. We are also learning different kinds of figurative language. In language arts I am working on pronouns. We are doing where you put them in sentences and you have to find the word and make it a pronoun.
In science I am working on we started a new chapter in our book. It is about matter, weight, and volume. We just started it a few days ago it is pretty fun so far. We did groups and rotated stations we had to draw a poster for one of the stations. We even got marsh mellows and after we got to eat them.

Math: my math teacher is still Mr. Finn and always will be. Right now math is a little hard because we are working on multiplying and dividing fractions. I like math because Mr. Finn is a great teacher but lately I haven’t been able to concentrate becaus4e everyone around me is talking. Oh and p.s., if Mr. Finn ever tells you the answer to everything is 42 don’t believe him.

Science: we just finished our ecology unit with a big test. We just got our tests back and I got a 96%! I only got to answers wrong! I’m not so good at science so 96% is a miracle! Now we’re working on our new unit, matter and energy.

Social studies: we finished our Mesopotamia unit with a skit. And you thought I was going to say test! Anyway, there were 5 to 4 people in a group for a skit. I was with Kathryn, Emily and Joey. I think we got like a 94% for our skit. Now we started a new unit on India.

Language arts: right now I am reading the book savvy. We just got done writing in our response logs. Now we are writing in journals. In our journals we wrote what a reputation is. Then we wrote what you think your reputation is and why you think that.

Spelling: in spelling I am in the enrichment group. Spelling used to be the most boring subject but now it’s one of the best!

Allied Class: we used to be in f/ce but now we’re in Tech Ed. We got our babysitting license on November 3rd. Mr. Mamerow teaches Tech Ed.

November By: Alex

In math we started the new unit decimals and fractions. For decimals in the starting when we were dividing it was really hard, but it got easier as we went on. Now were working with fractions I’m really good at multiplying and dividing. So I think I’m doing pretty well.
In la we did our personal narratives were I wrote about my last day school when I broke my hand. Now where writing about if I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Orlando Florida. When I finished that I started writing about if I could meet anyone dead or alive I would meet Sean Scheemel.
In science we did a skit for commensalism. My group was Noah, jack, I, and Jennifer and I got an A on the project. One thing I learned is abiotic and biotic factors. I think because I love science is why I get a good grade in that subject.
In social studies we learned about Mesopotamia and now where studying India. When in the Mesopotamia unit we did a skit about their culture and I and my group did a good job. We just started learning about India which so far is pretty easy. I love social studies and I’m eager to learn about china.

Math:
In math the past month we have learned how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract. This has been very challenging the first couple of days but then Mrs.Ohern has been so nice to help us make it easier ( CHEAT ). Also in math we have been learning how to multiply divide, add, and subtract decimals. So far in math this has really easy for me.

Language Arts:
In L.A. this year we have been learning how to make connections to the character, self, and world. After we had finished that about a week ago we started to write in our journals about one thing called a reputation that I just learned the definition on Thursday. This has been real fun doing this because we can just write about whatever we want.

Science:
In science we have been leaning about ecology, well at least in November and in December this year we have just started to learn about mass, volume, and matter. The mass is how much space the area takes up, and matter is that how you weigh the object, and then volume is the length, height, and width.

Social Studies:
In social studies the first part we had to do skits and a compare and contrast essay on the differences between the Nile River and the Euphrates and Tigris. Also right now we are working on a project and we have do draw a portrait of a city named Dehendro-Dajo.

November By: J.B.

In spelling we are learning about we learned about 15 new words some we knew and did not know. In our packet we do fix it’s and add it’s, when we do fix it’s there is a paragraph that we have to fix like spelling, use right words and punctuation. In add it’s they give us words that we half to add it, like this time it was change one letter (like bears, hears, years).
In reader’s workshop we did text to text, text to self, and text to world, characters journey, crisis situation, and life lesson. We just finished our response log, and now are working in groups.
In writer’s workshop we are making an 8 page book, with 8 prompts 1 page per prompt. We have to now add in figurative language. We have learned about idioms, alliteration, simile, and metaphors.
In science we just took our test on our ecology book and now we are starting a new book called matter and energy. We just started and learned about weight, matter, and mass and the difference from mass and weight.
In Social Studies we are learning about Ancient India and Majo Dario and we are making a map of Majo Dario. We have to put a Grain Warehouse, a Citadel, a bath size pool, a few houses, and the Indus River.
In math we learning about how to divide, multiply, add, and subtract fractions and decimal. We are going to take a test soon.
In our allied class we have finished F.C.E. with sewing and babysitting licenses. Now starting Tec. Ed. In this class we make a “Tic-Tac-Toe” game and a keychain. We have just started Tec. drawing and we learned about how to measure. Right now it was very boring but now it is starting to get more fun. In band we are going to have our concert on the 15th. In gym we are starting our bowling unit

November By: Matt

This November we learned a lot and we would like to tell you what we learned. In social studies we learned about mesopitmea and we did a skit on what they do and how they lived. We also are starting a new unit on India and we have to draw a map of the town and what it looks like it is really fun doing lease units in social studies. In math we are learning about fractions and how you multiply and divide them it is a really hard unit. We also played a game the was called sink the ship where are teacher gave us a problem and we had to answer it and she called like 5 people’s names and they had to raise there boards and if you got it right you got to sink someone or bring someone up and if got it wrong you sunk yourself. It has been really hard in math but really fun. In language arts we are doing are writing prompts of if we could go anywhere, if you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be, and our favorite school memory. And I am having a good typing it has Improved my typing and I actually want to type now. We have learned about pronouns, adjectives, and idioms those have been really fun to learn about to it has been in languages arts. In science we are learned about the ecosystem and the earth. It was really fun doing all of the stuff in science we had to do a skit and I was a flower it was fun. Well this is we have been doing these month.

November By: Ben

In the 3rd month of school and I learned a lot more.

In math I learned the flip a cull reciprocal, finding the lowest common fraction, adding fractions, subtracting fractions, multiplying fractions, and comparing fractions.

In science I learned more about ecology like the food chain, biotic factors, abiotic factors, and did skits my skit was compation. Had a test.

In social studies we learned about Mesopotamia. Did a skit about Mesopotamia. Had a test.

In readers work shop we finished our reading response logs, and we started on our stories, and in the reading response we did character to self, character to character, and character to world.

Here are the first three to my story
1. If I could go anywhere in the would I would go to
2. If I could meet any one dead or alive I would meet
3. My favorite school memory is ...

In spelling we did spelling unit 6-8 and those units were fun.

In tech ed we watched viedies.

November By: Drew

November was here and a second later it was gone. This month was just one more month of the year!

In this month in math I made a huge accomplishment. I finished my Pre-Algebra course and am now on Algebra 1. On algebra I now have 193 out of 288 topics, and 302 out of 302 in pre-algebra. I worked on Data Analysis and Probability and Arithmetic Readiness. I am working very hard and my goal is to finish algebra by the end of the year!

In readers workshop we just finished up our response log packets. We finished off with character to world, character to character, and character to self. I finished up my book Sent, and I am now reading The Son of Neptune.

In writers workshop we are working on making books. The first three pages are:

1. If I could go anywhere in the world…
2. If I could meet anybody (dead or alive) I would meet…
3. My favorite school memory is…

I am done with the first two.

In Social Studies we learned about Mesopotamia. It is also called the Fertile Crescent. Our test for that unit was to make a skit about the daily life of a child in Mesopotamia. They went to school to learn cuneiform, grew crops to pay taxes, and went to church in the Ziggurat. We recently started our new unit on Ancient India and are making maps of Mohenjo-Daro.

In Science we just wrapped up our Ecology unit. We also did skits in this unit, like social studies. My group did a skit on cooperation, which is when animals work together to do something, like hunting. Other skits were competition, mutualism, parasitism, commensalism, and prey/predator.

So far this year has been getting better and better!

November By: Elly & Jenni

Social Studies- Right now we are learning about Ancient India, we just finished our Mesopotamian unit. It is interesting. We love how we are building a city of Mohenjo-Daro. We are both making our city 3D. WE are having a good time. Social Studies is better without homework. Without homework we would have more fun and we like to do projects instead of reading out of the book.

Science- We are starting our matter and energy unit. Yesterday we thought of what we were going to do. We looked in our textbooks and we found cool experiments to try. We love all of the cool experiments that we could do. One of them was roasting a hot dog with two corks, a stick, and a sheet of tin foil. I hope we get to try it soon.

Math- Jenni is in Mrs. Roben’s class. She is learning about adding, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals. She already knows about it. Elly is in Pre-Algebra and is having a good time. We both dislike learning math. But we know we have to.

L.A. - We are starting this Journal that we write in. Our first response that we wrote in it was what is a reputation is, and what do you think your reputation is? We enjoy our books or Journals or whatever you call them.

Tech Ed- In Tech Ed we are learning how to draw a square inside a square, it is really boring. We hope you enjoyed our writing blog.

November By: Annika & Emily

Math- It is by far the most gruesome subject of the day. The torture of having to do hard problems is unbearable. We fear that we might die of an overdose of math. Help us, please spare your children. We will be forever grateful. Okay, so maybe math isn’t that gruesome. However, in our class we must sit nearly the full hour. An entire hour is longer than you think, and the fact that you must sit and be silent makes it boring. Although we have a break in towards the end of the class, it is a short one. Otherwise we find it to be fine, since on Aleks (the website we use) you get to chose what you work on.

Spelling- One of the more pleasant subjects of the day is towards the end of the afternoon. In this subject we are divided into two groups. In enrichment, we get to work independently in class. We also have the option to use the computers which helps with our packet. Overall spelling is pretty good.

L.A.: In Language Arts, we have been using response logs to respond to lessons taught by Mrs. Fulfer herself about our books. In the writing area, we have been working on 8 writing prompts that are going to be turned into a book. LA is one of the better classes of the day.

Science: Recently we have started a new unit about matter of energy. Our class took the Ecology test on Tuesday. The Ecology unit was about how animals interact with each other and their environment. We are glad to move on from the Ecology unit because we want to learn something new to expand our brains.

Social Studies: A week or two ago we finished the Ancient Mesopotamia unit. At the end of the unit we split into groups and made skits. Each skit was different. While some were more informative, there were others that were hilarious. Now that we are done, we are moving onto Ancient India.

November By: Carlos & Jack

Math: Carlos is learning how to divide, multiply, add and subtract fractions. Carlos is also learning how to divide, multiply, add and subtract decimals. Jack is almost done with algebra. He has 22 topics left in algebra. Carlos has eight lessons left in his math class.

Language Arts: In language arts we learned how to make connections between characters, character to world and character to self. We had a response log but we finished them so now we have a journal about our reputation. We had to write ¾ of a page about our reputation. We made sure Mrs. Fulfer didn’t read them.

Science: For all of November we learned about ecology. We had to do a project on biomes. A biome it is an area that has its own certain factors. We also learned about biotic and abiotic factors. An abiotic factor is a non living factor of an ecosystem. A biotic factor is a living factor of an ecosystem.

Social Studies: We learned a lot in social studies this month. We learned about two great civilizations. We learned about Mesopotamia and we wrote a compare and contrast essay on the Euphrates, Tigris and Nile river. We also started to learn about India. We had to draw an ancient city from India.

Extra Curricular: We have been practicing for basketball and it is very fun. We hope our hard work can get us first in state.

November By: Janie & Megan

In Social Studies, we finished the Mesopotamia unit by putting on a play about the daily life of a boy or girl in Mesopotamia, and we’re now learning about Ancient India. We already learned about the geography. We now have to make a map of Mohenjo-Daro, a city in Ancient India next to the Indus River. We’re trying to make it accurate and detailed with the information the textbook gives us. For example, we have to make the citadel, a massive fort, on the left side of the map, or the west side.

During Science we also started a new unit, Matter and Energy. Before that, we took a test about Ecology to finish up the unit. In Matter and Energy, we already figured out the difference between mass, weight, and volume. Another thing we did was figuring out what we wanted to learn in this unit, like doing a hot dog experiment.

In Tech Ed, we are learning about rulers and their value. We now know that a foot was the length of a king’s foot, and an inch was about the length across their finger. Then, they just decided to make it one length instead of changing it every time that they get a new ruler, hence ruler. We are about to start our technical drawings, or the drawings of plans, to make a tic-tac-toe board. Then, we will get to go into the workshop and make it!

In math, we are working on ALEKS, a computerized program where we can work at our own pace on the subjects that we want to learn instead of waiting for a unit to be over so we can work on a more challenging one. We are playing a game called 24 when we get 4 numbers and we have to make 24 by adding, subtracting, dividing, or multiplying. Sometimes we even get decimals or fractions. Now, we have a newer version of the game when it is set up like a venn diagram with 3 numbers on the outside. Then, we have to figure out a middle number that works in both sides. They also have to equal 24.

In reader’s workshop, we are just finishing up our response journals that we fill out after 25 minutes of silent reading. Currently, we are also working on our journals, when we write about our reputation. We don’t know what else we will be writing about, because we just got them yesterday.

In writer’s workshop, we are making a real book. It is going to be hardcover, and we are getting it in the end of the year. We can design pictures and our own font, then just make it our own. We are writing about 8 prompts, such as ‘What is your favorite school memory?’ and ‘If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?’ Some of us are doing our story that we are doing for Write Away!. It is a lot of fun.

November By: Noah & Greg

Math- in Mr. Finn’s math class we’re working on dividing fraction with reciprocals. It’s really simple. In Mrs. Fulfer’s math class, which is aleks, most of the people are done or almost done with pre-algebra. There are some topics that are hard but for the most part it’s really easy.

Science- In science class with Mrs. Fulfer, we finished the ecology unit. Now we’re learning about mass, matter, and volume. The new unit is much more fun than the old one, ecology. They are both very easy

Social studies- In Mrs. Fulfer’s social studies class we are now learning about India. We finished our Mesopotamia unit. Right now we’re focusing on Mohenjo-Daro, which is a city in India. We have to draw a map of what we think it looks like. It’s kind of fun because we get to draw pictures, but it’s not hard at all.

Language Arts/LA- We are learning about how and when to replace words with pronouns. Pronouns are used in place of any noun. They are very useful. They make it so you don’t sound very repetitive. It’s pretty easy. We are also do more stuff like similes, metaphors, and alliteration. Also, we are making a book.

November By: Seth

This month in Math I finished Algebra at the beginning of the month and I am almost done with Geometry. Math is really getting hard and I’m sure it’s not going to get any easier. My goal is to finish geometry before Winter Break.

In Science we did skits about interactions between animals. We also took the final test, which was about ecology. We are now starting Matter and Energy unit, which I really want to learn about.

In Language Arts we finished our Response Logs with learning about making connections from our book to other books, the world, and to ourselves. Now we are doing a reflective journal before we start a new Response Log.

Social Studies was really fun this month. We did a skit about Ancient Mesopotamia, which was really fun because we got to do something to review before our unit test which was fun. Overall, I really thought this month was really fun.
