6th Grade Highlights By: Joey
These are some highlights from each subject.
The best thing we did in science was the volcanoes
The best thing we did in social studies was the forum bath. I did the forum bath with J.B.
The best thing we did in math is the casino project. The casino project is where we make a game and people get money to spend.
I think the best thing we did in Writers was making our own books.
In reading was making our own face book page. The book that I did was Sammy Keyes and the hotel thief.
My best memory would have to be everything new did this year.
I will miss being in J.Bs class

Language Arts
My highlights for language arts are the days we used the skill book because I liked searching for the correct pages and using them as references. I also liked the times we read the plays in the skill book because the plays were interesting and the questions were even more interesting.
Science
My highlights for science would be the space unit because I really liked the board games we made and how we answered certain questions at certain times in the packet we got. I also liked the Earth, Sun, and Moon Dance we did where we had to make up a dance using the seasons and the way the Earth turns on an axis. I think science was my favorite subject beside Social Studies with projects.
Social Studies
My highlights for social studies would have to be the days we made projects, like the volcanoes and mountains or earthquakes, and what the continents would look like together before continental drift happened. I really liked building a building to with stand an earthquake and almost every group’s building didn’t fall over, including ours.
Math
My highlights in math are playing the games like 24 and having math-chats because in math-chats we can get help without getting in trouble and in 24 we can win candy and it’s fun playing it because of the expressions everyone makes when they get it right or wrong. I also like the projects because we get groups and it’s a break from ALEKS.
Best Memory
The best memory of the school year would probably be the trench-ball tournament because we got second out of all the teams in 6th grade and we had fun playing the other teams and playing with the high schoolers on our team. It was also hard when we played a couple really good teams like the team that got first. It was still fun even though we lost.
I’ll Miss
I think I’ll miss seeing my friends everyday because I don’t think we have any of the same classes and I’ll also miss having a very simple schedule and being used to having the same schedule all year not just one semester.
6th Grade Highlights By: Jenni
L.A. Reading
The highlight for me in L.A. reading was the reading groups we got to pick them and it was really fun working together. I don’t really like reading and don’t do it often but it was truly fun to read together in a group. And I hope that we get to do that next year in middle school too.
Science
In science it was really fun to make a volcano and watch others explode. My partner was Annika the day before we accidently made it explode with the help from Emma and salt. And we used the salt the next day and it worked again. It was really fun to do the volcanoes.
Math
Math too many kids math was boring and sometimes hard but the last week of school was the best because we played different math practice games and math was finally fun. I tried games such as, Diffy, real world problems and sink or swim. It was really fun and I wish we could do that the whole year.
Social Studies
My favorite part of social studies was planning for the Medieval Faire. I thought that it was even more fun to work it and plan than actually going to it as a 4th or 5th grader. I wish that I could help next year too. I made a lot of the crowns and a few of the small shields.
Favorite memory
My favorite memory was boating and helping restore the pond. It was fun lifting rocks. Our class painted fences, moved gravel to restore the path again and after that we went boating. It was really fun and I wish we could go boating again or even canoeing. And that was my favorite memory from this year.
What I’m going to miss the most
I’m going to miss going to Horizon school and even more going t miss the awesome teachers here. This year our class was beast and awesome; the best class I have ever had. And I love Horizon and I don’t want to move on to middle school. And that’s what I’m going to miss the most this year.
6th Grade Highlights By: Matt & Noah
Science: in science we learned about earth. We learned about the earth’s layers and the tectonic plates. We learned about volcanoes and earthquakes. We built our own volcanoes and a model building to face an earthquake. It was really fun building and learning about this stuff.
Social studies: we just learned about medieval ages. We had a guy come in and teach us about knights, weapons, and kingdoms. We even had a medieval faire it was awesome we made crowns, shields and whole bunch of other medieval stuff to sell. It has been really fun learning about medieval times.
Languages Arts: in language arts we created a Greek god and wrote a story about him or her.
The story actually ended up being pretty good there was a lot to write about too because we could us our imagination. We also just finished our spring DWA that wasn’t very fun but it’s something we have to do. Matt and I both improved a lot.
Math: Math is coming to an end so our teacher let us do something fun for a change. We split the class in to groups and pairs and each group made a game we called it the casino project. We each got 10 dollars to our self and 10 to our game. We gambled on other people’s games and the people that got the most amount of money won matt is still working on it but I ended up getting in 2nd place in my math class. It was a lot of fun.
Highlights from 6th Grade By: Annika
Highlights from Subjects
Science- My favorite part in science was when me and Jenny made our volcano explode in the class room when a sub was here. It was hilarious. We just poured in some salt, and suddenly the red lava came flying out. Thank you Emma, for pouring in too much salt.
Social Studies- When we hosted the Medieval Faire, which was so much fun to prepare for, yet seemed small afterwards. All in all it was fun, especially as a class.
L.A. probably the Poetry Packet, which we spent time on outside by the pond, along with my Creative writing piece about laptops which I got a 99% on.
Math- When I finished Pre-Alegebra and got more than 75% of the way done with Alegebra… Math may be boring, but it felt good when I finished the majority of topics in Alegebra.
End of the Year Rap up
Probably one of the best memories of the class that I will have would be our group discussions. People would always have random and funny comments, and it took everything for Mrs. Fulfer to keep the conversation on the topic.
I will miss the discussions and activity’s we used to do as a class, most of which failed… ☺
6th Grade Highlights By: Emily
Social Studies: The highlight of Social Studies has definitely been the Medieval Faire. The Medieval Faire was a lot of fun. Although the quality of the products went down with our class, it was still very enjoyable.
Science: Science’s highlight of the year was definitely all the projects. Making volcanoes was entertaining, and watching them all explode was very amusing.
L.A.: The highlight of LA was probably doing the book clubs because I was with my friends, and the book we read was really good. I also liked writing all different kinds of stories in Writer’s Workshop.
Math: The highlight in Math was being able to be with all of my friends and work at the same time, but then we switched math classes, so now I’m not with the same people. I guess now the highlight is being able to work at your own pace.
What I’ll miss about 6th grade: I’ll miss being able to wake up later. Waking up earlier will be torture! One thing that I won’t miss is school lunches.
Best Memories: One of the best memories is the bowling field trip. It was awesome, and I’ll definitely remember it, even though I suck at bowling. I’ll also remember all the funny class discussions that we had.
6th Grade Highlights By: Greg & Seth
L.A. - One of our good memories from language arts was reading our book club books. We read Half-moon Investigations, which was a mystery book, and it was really fun trying to predict what was going to happen next. It was also pretty fun to make a claymation for Half-moon. We did a scene where one guy beat up the main character, Fletcher, with a curl bat… At night. We both greatly enjoyed making claymations.
Science - We both agree making the volcanoes was the most fun in science all year. We made our volcano together using Mentos and Diet Coke to make it erupt, but we also made a pulley system and used an remote control car to set the Mentos in the bottle. Sadly though, when we went outside to make it explode the wind kept messing up the angle of the volcano, so the Mentos wouldn’t land in the bottle, but it was still fun all the same.
Math - Once every quarter, in math, we do a project. In the third quarter, we had to invest in a car. We were given a yearly salary, and we had to figure in all the taxes, gas, tune ups, and insurance. For our project, we got a 1960’s white Corvette. We had extra money in the end, so we got a cool black and red paint job. We also got 5 star rims. If only we could have this car in real life.
Social Studies - At the very end of the Mesopotamia unit we made plays in groups, and we were in the same group. We were given about 5 topics, and we had to do different scenes that showed our knowledge of Ancient Mesopotamia. The plays were fun and comical, and I believe that everyone had fun.
Review - We are not sure what we will miss the most this year. There were a lot of fun activities, funny moments, and interesting comments. What we’ll probably miss most, is the mixture of different kids I our class that all became friends, some in a different way than others. What we’ll miss the most is all the funny moments we’ve had.
6th Grade Highlights By: Cali and Maggie (aka Pemble and Rose McButton from the Real NOT Housewives of Great Britain)
Highlights from LA-
We’ve never been to LA….but you know our web show will get us there soon enough. But, if you are talking about Language Arts well then we can help you with that. In reading we read books, read papers and listened to Mrs. Fulfer read “I’d tell you I Love but Then I’d have to Kill You”. In writing we did our DWA’s where we had to write about either about a lion hunting men or a kid’s first day at school.
In science we studied volcanoes and mountains. While studying volcanoes we, along with everyone else in our class, had to create our own volcano. Now I know what you’re thinking: “Ohhh a volcano, that’s sounds hard!” And yes it was… very hard. We did not just have to create a volcano this volcano had erupt, but we could not just use vinegar and baking soda, we had to find other ways to make this volcano erupt. We searched on the World Wide Internet for alternative ways to make this volcano explode….. We ended up using baking soda, lemon juice, red dye, and dish soap. And we got a hundred!
In social studies we were studying Medieval Europe. Then we had our Medieval Faire. Cali had to chase little kids and give them passports. When they said “no” we followed them until they took it. Maggie had to help Cali in the first half hour and then Cali left so I had to pass out passports to about four different classrooms. But anyway after that I was selling bracelets, mask, and ring-pops, last half hour I was a face painter, but they were full, so Mrs. Fulfer said I could just walk around, so altogether it was a pretty good medieval faire.
IN math for ALEKS we had to have some kids finish up pre-algebra. I finished though, so I was ok. Anyways, we had a game day where we all played computer games. But, I had to get my braces off, so I missed it.
In expressions math we are starting pre-algebra so we finished up starting; I guess, but for the last week of school we have been playing math related games and then we had a packet to get us ready for next year’s math, but today (Thursday) is our last day of math…..
We have 3 highlights:
1) The creation of the Quadricorn Tacos Original Founders Club. Or the QTOFC, you pronounce it as “Quatoafic.” This includes Maggie, Cali, and Emily.
2) The creation of the Real Not Housewives of Great Britain web show which is founded by Maggie, Cali, and Emily. Annika has also been accepted into. We plan to air in the end of June.
3) All of our field trips. Our favorites include: The Museum of Science and Industry, Row Boat and Restoration, The Alvin Ailey 2 Dance Company, and Bowling
A special note from the Real Not Housewives of Great Britain:
Pemble McButton (Cali) - Oh my god, did you see Jasmine’s hair? It was definitely bottom notch. Have a top notch summer!!!
Rose (Maggie) – Have a Splendid summer and remember to always love your right thumb, not your left thumb I mean it’s just backwards. Well I’m off for tea Pip – Pip Cherrio.
Jasmine (Emily) - Pemble can’t talk about hair, because her’s is absolutely horrid. It’s probably not even real. Have a brilliant summer.
Elizabeth (Annika) – If toothpicks could fly, then they could rule the world, and life would be so much better… Have a wonderful summer, filled with blue toothpicks, not green.
Highlights of the Year By: Charlene
Language arts: my favorite writing assignment was the creative piece. This is because when I was little I used to try to write creative pieces. (Of course at the time I didn’t know what they were called) anyway that assignment made me finish a creative piece.
Science: my favorite thing in science was when we exploded the volcanoes not to long ago. I really didn’t expect that to be homework! I also didn’t know there was so many ways to make a volcano explode. My favorite volcano eruption was Elly and Janie’s. I thought it was cool how they did the confetti.
Social studies: I enjoyed making the coliseum for social studies. It was also my first time using prezi so that was fun too. I liked seeing everybody else’s projects too. My favorite project was Janie and megan’s.
Math: this year I really liked math. Mr. Finn is an awesome teacher. However my favorite thing about math has to be when we did the “casino” project. In my group were the two shyest people in the world, (or at least in the class), which I had to be the outgoing one. (In case you don’t know me well that’s a near impossibility!)
Best memory: the first five minutes on the first day of school when our class was actually quiet. Then Mrs. Fulfer asked us to talk to each other and the room was silent. I don’t think the room was ever as silent as that ever again!
What I will miss: I will miss everything!!! I just can’t believe this year slipped by already!
Highlights from 6th Grade By: Jacob
My highlight for L.A. is just my progress. I have improved as a reader, writer, and student. My grades have improved so much I’m surprised. I am so happy where I am reading wise I can’t stand it.
My science highlight is all the hands on stuff we did. Like making the strange substance that was water and corn starch. Also we made a board game for involving space. We went to Chicago and went to a very cool museum. We also when to the prairie too. We have done a lot of cool hands on stuff.
My favorite social studies memory is the midlevel fair. We planed and studied and it was just a lot of fun.
My memory for math is NO HOMEWORK. We had barely any homework. It was so cool. I loved it. That is why my memory for math is NO HOMEWORK.
My memory for in class is the happiness and joy. There was a little too much joy, because people where blurting out and being disrespectful, but is was still fun.
One thing I will miss is Mrs. Fulfer. She was one of the best teachers I have ever had. I will surly miss her.
Highlights from this Year By: Celina
I didn’t like LA this year because it was boring. It would be a lot better if we had more projects. Like the creative writing piece, that was fun, but a lot of other stuff was boring
Science was a lot more fun than LA. In the beging of the year we got to go to the prairie
and then we got to go on a row boating trip.
S.S was ok but I would’ve liked it better if there were more projects other than the game board.
Math was so much fun because Mrs. Roben made me laugh. And she made it easy to learn.
The best memory I remember was the whole year. I will miss my friends and Mrs. Fulfer.
Highlights from 6th Grade By: Alex
Science highlight: my favorite thing we did was when we made the volcano. But mine didn’t explode but the other ones were cool.
Social studies highlight: the best thing in social studies is the medieval faire. The games were fun and so was the stuff.
Math highlight: my highlight was the casinos we made.
Reader’s workshop: the best thing we did in my book club was making the Claymation.
I’ll miss having recess every day.
My best memory is when on the bus there was a tick on someone and the whole bus was yelling.
School Memories By: Carlos
It’s the end of the year! It’s both a happy and sad time. It is a happy time because it’s summer and I can do whatever I want, sad because I don’t get to see my friends every day. For 180 days we have all seen each other, now it’s time to say goodbye.
Now it’s time to look back on the highlights of this year. In L.A the highlight was when Matt lost his chips in 30 seconds. It was really funny. A highlight from science is when we were working on our volcanoes and Jennies exploded and I started clapping, then everyone started clapping. It was awesome. Next a highlight from Social Studies was when Matt threw a ruler and almost hit Jack in the head. Finally a highlight from Math, honestly math was horrible. I just don’t like it but the best highlight was when I jumped from a 229 in my math score to a 251. Thank you Mrs. Roben!
The best memory of our class I think, Ok before I say this I just want to say I know it’s going to be cheesy but I think it was the whole year. It was probably the best year that I have ever had. It was so fun. I think I will miss everyone. Ugh that sounds so cheesy but you know haters gonna hate. Bye!
Highlights from 6th Grade By: Emma
L.A. in language arts I had a lot of fun stuff we learned about prefixes and other stuff. We made a claymation on a book we had I had wolf brother. Lastly in it we read a lot of books like I read at least 5 books and they were pretty good.
Science, science is always been my favorite class and this year was the best science. We made this weird green slimy stuff called obleak. But some of my favorite projects where the volcanoes making posters about earthquakes and prairies and lastly going to the river and cleaning it up.
Social studies, in socials we did all of the places like India, Italy, china, roam, and other stuff and my favorite was Italy because I have always wanted to go there and when I go there I will know stuff about it.
Math, math is almost always boring no matter what grade. But what we did in math was learn how to solve long problems with letters and fractions. Also i learned how to divide and multiply fractions
The best memory in the class was when I accidentally exploded a volcano with salt and soda who would of new it would explode. What would be recess.
Highlights from 6th Grade By: JB
In Language Arts we got to make a claymation in Reader’s Workshop. In Writer’s Workshop we made a book that got published like in a hard cover.
In science we made a rap that was funny. We also made a volcano and got to explode it one day. Another fun thing was making the presentations like the biomes and the types of boundaries. Another fun thing was going to Chicago and seeing The Science and Industry museum and seeing an omnimax show named Tornado Valley.
In social studies we made a forum bath for Ancient Greece that was really cool. We also made a game board for Ancient Egypt. I also liked the map we made of a town in Ancient India.
In math I liked the casino project we just did where you get fake money and try to win money from games. I also liked all the things we learned that I didn’t know. Last I liked how I was challenged all the time.
My best memory was the rowboat trip, were we restored a part of the path along the Pewaukee River in the morning. Then in the afternoon we got to row in a rowboat down the river, and there was this part was you had to lie in the boat. I didn’t row much because the other person in my boat liked to row it.
I will miss having a good teacher unlike 5th grade were me would take 2 and a half hours on math, one hour to correct homework other part for lesson. I will also miss not have a recess anymore.
Highlights of this school year By: Kathryn & Mikayla
Lang. Arts- Everyone enjoyed reading multiple books with different reading groups. Making real, published books was an awesome project that everyone really liked working on. At the end of the year, we learned how to write business letters. We all wrote letters to Mrs. Pugh asking if she would download the apps we picked that we thought would be a good idea to put onto all of the school iPod’s.
Science- Our #1 favorite project in science for our class was making volcanoes that actually exploded. It was a challenge to come up with our own ways to create the volcanoes, then make them erupt. Everyone’s worked in different ways. Also, we made Biome presentations at the beginning of the year. We chose a biome to work with, then had to learn all of its aspects and present them.
Social Studies- The class was split into groups to make Egyptian board games. Everyone put their own touch on their game so none of them were the same. They were a different way to learn about Egypt that got us involved. In May, we could pair up with one other person to choose from a list of possible project topics. Emma and I made a model of Mt. Vesuvius and it’s neighboring city, Pompeii. We re-created the mountain and city along with a Prezi on the topic.
Math- This year I really improved in math. I learned a lot of new things that I will be able to use in Middle School. I really excelled in Factor Tables and in percentages. I caught on really quickly, which made it easy and fun.
*Best Memory of Our Class
I think the best memories of our class would have to be the random singing. The boys would just start singing a song while we were working on something and everyone would join in.
*What I Will Miss Most
I’ll miss all my friends being in one class with me. I’ll miss everyone, I think next year when we are all split up. We had a lot of fun together.
6th Grade Highlights By: Ben
The highlights in language arts is the business letter about the app we wanted to download. Mine was math and the subject was math, and math is the name it can help you with everything in math. Also in this subject it was also the spelling test I might not be the best speller but I get a 65%-100% in grading.
The highlight in science was the volcano project, because it was exciting to watch other people’s volcano explode. During my volcano I got a little wet.
The highlight for math was the casino project. My project had a 4%-39% of winning for mine people lost their fake money like 1 dollar- 3 bucks of money. Jbs’ project had a 40%-80% chance of winning so I played it.
The highlight in social studies was the Egyptian board game that ever group made was different. I learned some stuff about Egyptians that day.
The best memory of this year in this class was the homework because I learned a whole lot of stuff this year that’s what is one of the best things about school. You get to learn a lot.
The one thing I will miss the most is the teachers I had, because they were all very nice. All of my friends to because I had most of them in 4th- 6th grade in one class.
6th Grade Highlights By: Elly
L.A.
The highlight of L.A. for me was probably the Facebook project. I did the book Love, Stargirl By: Jerry spinelli and it was really fun. And I loved looking at everyone else’s project. I learned a lot about the hunger games.
Science
The highlight of science was the projects. Not just one project, all. From the Alien Hat, to the Volcanoes. Everything was fun!
Social Studies
I love social studies; it’s probably my favorite subject. So I love everything, I even liked the tests. I love the projects the most in this subject, because their usually interesting topics. Such as people, illnesses, or even just the history of a palace.
Math
The highlight of math…… Hmmmmmmm……. Well, I don’t know yet because I am going to take my assessment in like an hour. So I don’t know yet.
Memory of Our Class
I think this is an easy one, our class is so weird. (So is our teacher) But everyone has some comment or something to blurt out or whisper to someone, and it starts a weird conversation. But I like my class and I’ll miss it.
What I’ll Miss the Most
The class and our teacher. I have nothing bad or wonderful to say about them.
6th Grade Highlights By: Drew
I’ve had a wonderful year and these are all my highlights!
My highlight in spelling was getting an easy packet the last week. It was fun to do it and not have to use dictionary.com for it.
My highlight from science was making a model volcano and erupting it outside. I made it with Jacob out of homemade clay and then we painted it. It was also fun to see everyone’s erupt.
My highlight from L.A. was reading Half Moon Investigations. It was a good and exciting book. Unfortunately, I was not here to make a clay-mation video.
My definite highlight of Social Studies was the Medieval Faire. I got to make mini catapults, but they all turned out bad so we didn’t sell them. I dressed up in a homemade knight costume on the day of the Faire, and that was fun too.
My highlight of math was finishing Pre-Algebra. I did over 100 topics in just a few days, and I got 100% on my final test.
My favorite memory of my class was all the funny jokes that happened through the year, even though I have to admit that it was at inappropriate.
I’m definitely going to miss having the same teacher all the time but now I have to move around. I guess I still kind of get that in Academy 21.
I hope next year will be just as good as this one, because I had a great year!
6th Grade Overview By: Janie
In L.A. (Language Arts), I think the highlight was the reading groups. Not the homework part, but the book part. The reading groups helped me find a good book (The Girl Who Could Fly), and I really enjoyed it. Also, in addition to the book part, I liked making those claymations.
In Science, there were multiple things that could be considered highlights. Some of my favorite activities include making volcanoes explode (part of a project), making oobleck, and making the earthquake resistant structure.
In Social Studies, I enjoyed hosting the Medieval Faire. I also liked making those replicas of Roman structures (Coliseum, Pantheon, Roman Temple, Roman Garden, etc.).
In math, there wasn’t really a special activity that I liked, but I felt pretty proud when my group won the garden designing contest (project) and when I finished Pre-Algebra.
The best memory of this class was probably the Medieval Faire and how we all had to work together (kind of), or whenever we do a giant class activity. If there’s anything I’ll miss in 6th grade, I think it would be Mrs. Fulfer and, in short, the whole class (however weird and crazy it was).
6th Grade Overview By: Megan
Science- My highlight from science this year is the space unit. I liked this unit because we learned almost the entire book ourselves in project form. I think our game board could have turned out much better, but the group put a lot of effort into it.
Language Arts- The best thing about L.A. this year is when we learned about figurative language. I think I improved a lot in that category, especially because I wasn’t very good to start.
Social Studies- My favorite time during Social Studies is when we learned about Ancient China. It was a lot of fun because I really understood what happened, when in the other units I didn’t really know what was going on half the time. I still really liked it, and it made me appreciate Social Studies a lot more.
Math- The thing I will remember most about math this year is the School Dance Project. It was fun because we could go out and add anything that we wanted, like Disco Balls, streamers, DJ’s, and more. Also, we had to add revenue. My group of Janie and Annika made $2,465.15. Everyone else made around $500, so we blew them out of the water.
The best memory about our class is when we went to Chicago. We went to the Museum of Science and Industry, and we were able to go wherever we wanted throughout the building. The coolest thing that my group did was making key chains. We used a computer program to decorate the plastic, and then we saved it to the computer. Then, Matt (person who ran the station) printed it onto plastic. Mine is hanging from my backpack, and it looks really cool.
I know that I am going to miss this class’s sense of humor. We can always make someone laugh. Sure, it might not be at the right time, but we still tend to do it every 45 seconds. And yes, the joke might not be as adults would refer to as ‘appropriate’, but it still gets a kick out of everyone.
