Highlights of this school year By: Kathryn & Mikayla

Lang. Arts- Everyone enjoyed reading multiple books with different reading groups. Making real, published books was an awesome project that everyone really liked working on. At the end of the year, we learned how to write business letters. We all wrote letters to Mrs. Pugh asking if she would download the apps we picked that we thought would be a good idea to put onto all of the school iPod’s. Science- Our #1 favorite project in science for our class was making volcanoes that actually exploded. It was a challenge to come up with our own ways to create the volcanoes, then make them erupt. Everyone’s worked in different ways. Also, we made Biome presentations at the beginning of the year. We chose a biome to work with, then had to learn all of its aspects and present them. Social Studies- The class was split into groups to make Egyptian board games. Everyone put their own touch on their game so none of them were the same. They were a different way to learn about Egypt that got us involved. In May, we could pair up with one other person to choose from a list of possible project topics. Emma and I made a model of Mt. Vesuvius and it’s neighboring city, Pompeii. We re-created the mountain and city along with a Prezi on the topic. Math- This year I really improved in math. I learned a lot of new things that I will be able to use in Middle School. I really excelled in Factor Tables and in percentages. I caught on really quickly, which made it easy and fun. *Best Memory of Our Class I think the best memories of our class would have to be the random singing. The boys would just start singing a song while we were working on something and everyone would join in. *What I Will Miss Most I’ll miss all my friends being in one class with me. I’ll miss everyone, I think next year when we are all split up. We had a lot of fun together.

6th Grade Highlights By: Ben

The highlights in language arts is the business letter about the app we wanted to download. Mine was math and the subject was math, and math is the name it can help you with everything in math. Also in this subject it was also the spelling test I might not be the best speller but I get a 65%-100% in grading. The highlight in science was the volcano project, because it was exciting to watch other people’s volcano explode. During my volcano I got a little wet. The highlight for math was the casino project. My project had a 4%-39% of winning for mine people lost their fake money like 1 dollar- 3 bucks of money. Jbs’ project had a 40%-80% chance of winning so I played it. The highlight in social studies was the Egyptian board game that ever group made was different. I learned some stuff about Egyptians that day. The best memory of this year in this class was the homework because I learned a whole lot of stuff this year that’s what is one of the best things about school. You get to learn a lot. The one thing I will miss the most is the teachers I had, because they were all very nice. All of my friends to because I had most of them in 4th- 6th grade in one class.

6th Grade Highlights By: Elly

L.A. The highlight of L.A. for me was probably the Facebook project. I did the book Love, Stargirl By: Jerry spinelli and it was really fun. And I loved looking at everyone else’s project. I learned a lot about the hunger games. Science The highlight of science was the projects. Not just one project, all. From the Alien Hat, to the Volcanoes. Everything was fun! Social Studies I love social studies; it’s probably my favorite subject. So I love everything, I even liked the tests. I love the projects the most in this subject, because their usually interesting topics. Such as people, illnesses, or even just the history of a palace. Math The highlight of math…… Hmmmmmmm……. Well, I don’t know yet because I am going to take my assessment in like an hour. So I don’t know yet. Memory of Our Class I think this is an easy one, our class is so weird. (So is our teacher) But everyone has some comment or something to blurt out or whisper to someone, and it starts a weird conversation. But I like my class and I’ll miss it. What I’ll Miss the Most The class and our teacher. I have nothing bad or wonderful to say about them.

6th Grade Highlights By: Drew

I’ve had a wonderful year and these are all my highlights! My highlight in spelling was getting an easy packet the last week. It was fun to do it and not have to use dictionary.com for it. My highlight from science was making a model volcano and erupting it outside. I made it with Jacob out of homemade clay and then we painted it. It was also fun to see everyone’s erupt. My highlight from L.A. was reading Half Moon Investigations. It was a good and exciting book. Unfortunately, I was not here to make a clay-mation video. My definite highlight of Social Studies was the Medieval Faire. I got to make mini catapults, but they all turned out bad so we didn’t sell them. I dressed up in a homemade knight costume on the day of the Faire, and that was fun too. My highlight of math was finishing Pre-Algebra. I did over 100 topics in just a few days, and I got 100% on my final test. My favorite memory of my class was all the funny jokes that happened through the year, even though I have to admit that it was at inappropriate. I’m definitely going to miss having the same teacher all the time but now I have to move around. I guess I still kind of get that in Academy 21. I hope next year will be just as good as this one, because I had a great year!

6th Grade Overview By: Janie

In L.A. (Language Arts), I think the highlight was the reading groups. Not the homework part, but the book part. The reading groups helped me find a good book (The Girl Who Could Fly), and I really enjoyed it. Also, in addition to the book part, I liked making those claymations. In Science, there were multiple things that could be considered highlights. Some of my favorite activities include making volcanoes explode (part of a project), making oobleck, and making the earthquake resistant structure. In Social Studies, I enjoyed hosting the Medieval Faire. I also liked making those replicas of Roman structures (Coliseum, Pantheon, Roman Temple, Roman Garden, etc.). In math, there wasn’t really a special activity that I liked, but I felt pretty proud when my group won the garden designing contest (project) and when I finished Pre-Algebra. The best memory of this class was probably the Medieval Faire and how we all had to work together (kind of), or whenever we do a giant class activity. If there’s anything I’ll miss in 6th grade, I think it would be Mrs. Fulfer and, in short, the whole class (however weird and crazy it was).

6th Grade Overview By: Megan

Science- My highlight from science this year is the space unit. I liked this unit because we learned almost the entire book ourselves in project form. I think our game board could have turned out much better, but the group put a lot of effort into it. Language Arts- The best thing about L.A. this year is when we learned about figurative language. I think I improved a lot in that category, especially because I wasn’t very good to start. Social Studies- My favorite time during Social Studies is when we learned about Ancient China. It was a lot of fun because I really understood what happened, when in the other units I didn’t really know what was going on half the time. I still really liked it, and it made me appreciate Social Studies a lot more. Math- The thing I will remember most about math this year is the School Dance Project. It was fun because we could go out and add anything that we wanted, like Disco Balls, streamers, DJ’s, and more. Also, we had to add revenue. My group of Janie and Annika made $2,465.15. Everyone else made around $500, so we blew them out of the water. The best memory about our class is when we went to Chicago. We went to the Museum of Science and Industry, and we were able to go wherever we wanted throughout the building. The coolest thing that my group did was making key chains. We used a computer program to decorate the plastic, and then we saved it to the computer. Then, Matt (person who ran the station) printed it onto plastic. Mine is hanging from my backpack, and it looks really cool. I know that I am going to miss this class’s sense of humor. We can always make someone laugh. Sure, it might not be at the right time, but we still tend to do it every 45 seconds. And yes, the joke might not be as adults would refer to as ‘appropriate’, but it still gets a kick out of everyone.

Students put a ton of effort into their student books this year. They were very excited when the books finally arrived! We took some time to celebrate and check out everyone's stories.

Science By: Zach & Seth

This month we are learning about space in science. We have learned about how the earth is on a tilt and that this is what causes the seasons, how the moon orbits earth, and how galaxies and stars are classified. We thought that one of the most interesting topics was how the surface of the moon came to be. We learned that the dark spots on the moon were called mare, because it was originally thought to be water on the moon, but we learned it was actually a dark lava rock called basalt. We also learned that the craters are called impact craters, which are little explosions that happen when a small body from space hits a larger body at fast speeds.
We are taking our test today. The unit test will include everything we have learned this month. This is anything from the phases of the moon to the stage our sun is in for the star cycle. We finished our study on Tuesday, and hopefully we have all been studying hard. Wish us luck.

Math (ALEKS): By: Drew & Jacob

The ALEKS math program is an outstanding program. Students are learning better and faster than ever. Students can learn at own pace. For example, if a student doesn’t understand a problem, there is no set schedule to move on to something else, so they are allowed time to learn it. Another example is if a student already knows the problem, no class time is wasted on teaching it to them again.
Most people are currently wrapping up their pre-algebra course. Currently, I, (Drew,) am finishing my Algebra 1 course. Jacob is almost done with his Pre-Algebra.
If students are ever stuck on a question, they can always ask their teacher for help. We also take progress assessments to see which topics we have truly mastered. If we didn’t truly master them, we are required to do them again.
Jacob and I are enjoying our math class for the first time and are excited to continue it next year!

Math (Expressions) By: Jenni

Hi, my name is Jenni. I’m in Mrs.Robens expressions math class. We are working on different types of graphs right now. Our last unit was converting customary units of liquid volume and finding a percent of number. We had to figure out the answer to complicated math problems.
We just took our test and did very well. Our next unit is different types of graphs. Such as dot plots and histographs. Next we will work on drawing models to unlevel data. The graph unit right now is easy but I’m sure that it will get harder. And that’s what we are doing in the math expressions class right now.

Language Arts By: Annika & Celina

Writers Workshop
Recently we took a trip into the (sometimes) creative minds of the class. We were allowed to pair up, and create a Greek god/goddess, along with a myth involving them. Emily and Annika paired up, while Celina seeked out Mikayla in her partnership. After editing and revising the pieces, we drew a picture of a scene in the story. The pictures are now posted in the back of the classroom on the bulletin board. Currently we have been learning about poems, and created a poem about what we have learned. From the fact that that punting a soccer ball at the ceiling can break the lights, to the fact that broccoli is better than brussels sprouts, the ideas were funny, and thought-provoking.

Readers Workshop
After writers workshop, we have been creating a power-point that resembles facebook. After presenting we are back on track, learning about more tactics, to help you connect with the books you read.

Allieds By: Noah & Matt

This quarter we are in health and we have been learning new things every time we go. Like to how to take care of your body and not to get into bad habits. It has been very interesting learning about how to take care and not do bad things like drugs, smoking, alcohol, and balancing our health pyramid. Although we haven’t learned much because we have only done 4 classes so far.
Surprisingly we have made our first project though we will present it soon. Although we haven’t learned much yet we are excited to learn more and get help balancing our health pyramids.

Girls Sports/Activities By: Emily & Cali

Soccer-
So far the girl’s soccer team has won 2 of their games. Since their original coach, Tim Jones, had to leave because of family reasons, Coach Seib has decided to coach us. Megan, Annika, Cali, Maggie, Emily and Celina are all on the soccer team. We are in a tournament in Madison over Spring Break, so hopefully we’ll bring back a trophy!

Basketball- In rec, the Gators won the championship against the Golden Eagles. They got first place in the Opie tournament. Celina was the only girl from our class on the Gators team. For select, the Girl’s Select Black team got 17th in State. The Select Red team won 4 of their games.


Volleyball-Jenny and Cali are on the Pewaukee 6th Grade Black Team. We entered a tournament and came in third place which is super good with how many teams joined in. We hope to have good luck in our next tournaments. Emma practices with the Brookfield Central Lancers. “They are doing well.” Emma states.


Jazz Lab-Save the Drama for Your Llama! Jazz lab members are raking in the llama points and playing musically very well. Our two songs are In the Mode and Let’s Go Band! (Or in Jazz Lab, Let’s Go Llamas!) We can’t wait to open for the 6th grade spring concert.


Musical Instruments-
1) Piano- Janie auditioned for a State Competition and has been accepted for the completion in May. Janie played Fantasia in D Minor, Spinning Song, and 3 Part Invention. Good luck Janie!
2) Honors Band- Jenny, Megan, Elly, and Charlene are auditioning for Honors Band. Megan is playing Simple Gifts; Annika, Jenny, and Ellly are playing Nocturne; and Charlene Steal Away. They also have to play G, C, and E Major scales as well as play the chromatic scale.

Boys Activities/Sports By: Celina & Ally

Basketball

The boys in our class that play basketball are Joey, Carlos, Jack, Colin, Matt, Zach, Jacob, Ben, Alex, and Seth. They are on the red and black teams. Joey is on red, Carlos is on black, Jack is on black, and Seth is on the black, too. The black team is going to state on April 14th, 2012. The black team is the higher division and the red is the lower division. The other boys that are on the red team are Nathan Burke, Jack Doubeck, John Sandlass, Michael Miossi, Bryce Howard, Alex Kraussel, Jake Schlitt, and Colin McGowan. The other boys on the black team are David Young, David Collins, Josh Swanson, Jaeger Hong, Matt Magennis, Ryan Wagner, and Grant Basile. Carlos missed the game winning free-throw against Franklin. Jack had surgery on his right leg and was out for 6 weeks and on crutches for a week. The boys black team got 9th place in the State Tournament.


Soccer

Joey, Greg, Ben, Jacob, J.B, and Alex all play soccer. Greg, Joey, J.B, Ben, and Jacob all play indoor soccer. Joey’s team doesn’t have a very good soccer team (he said) because they always lose. J.B. says that he has a good soccer team because they won three and lost two. Greg says that his team is somewhat good. They play indoor soccer at Indoor Soccer in Brookfield. The indoor soccer games are almost over then it’s time to play outdoor soccer.


Baseball
Joey, Seth, Carlos, Noah, Ben, Zach, Jacob, Colin, and Drew all play baseball. But only Colin and Zach play select baseball. On Zach and Colin’s baseball team are Nathan Burke, Jacob Sklenar, Bayne Basche, Jack Doubeck, Ricky Glowe, Ian Patowski, Ryan Wagner, and Josh Swanson. Zach and Colin say that their team is somewhat good. Their team plays at Balmer Park.
